Policies and Procedures

PICK UP AND DROP OFF

Drop-off time is between 7:30am and 8:30am. Morning circle will begin at 8:30am. Drop-off is at the door. Due to COVID restrictions, we do not have parents come inside for drop-off and pick-up.

Pick-up time is between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. A summary of our day is always up by the door. We encourage you to use this to talk to your child about their day. Remember to check their folders by the door to pick up any artwork or announcements.

​

ABSENCES AND ILLNESSES

The school cannot deduct for any absences caused by vacations, colds or other illness. For the health of all children please do not send your child to school if they exhibit the following symptoms: 

​

  • nausea, vomiting or diarrhea (keep home for full 24 hours after last episode)

  • earache, ear drainage, sore throat, persistent cough

  • heavy nasal discharge (yellow or green)

  • fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit 

  • headache and/or stomachache in combination with other symptoms

  • communicable skin rash

  • infection in one or both eyes (pink eye/conjunctivitis)

  • communicable diseases

  • head lice

Please call or text the school if your child will be absent. Children should remain home 24 hours after a fever has subsided (temperature should remain normal for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications). In the event of head lice, please notify the school so that we may take the proper precautions in the classroom. This information will remain confidential.

ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

An emergency injury or illness that occurs during school hours will be reported to you immediately. Please make sure we have all emergency forms and phone numbers.

POTTY TRAINING

We do accept children who aren't potty trained, however, parents must agree to allow us to run a potty training program and maintain the program at home. Potty training programs will be written by the teacher based on the individual child's needs and development level. If your child is still in diapers, you will be responsible for providing diapers and wipes. 

​

SCHOOL ATTIRE

Please keep in mind when choosing the clothes your child wears to school that we play outside and use glue, paint, shaving cream, and other things that may cause a mess when we are being creative! For their safety, we request that children be sent to school with closed toed shoes, like Crocs or Vans. It is important that their shoes are easy to get off and on with minimal help.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Your and you child's privacy is very important to us. We take pictures of the children in the classroom to let parents see various activities that go on at school. These photos are only displayed at school or in your child's ClassDojo page which is only accessible by parents of children at the school. We love to share the fun times with future families, so if you are ok with us publishing your child's photo to our website or Facebook page, please fill out the photo release form.

 

WEATHER CLOSURES

Occasionally we will need to close to due inclement weather. We follow the Maui County Department of Education decisions when it comes to weather closures. We will send out an email as much in advance as possible when issuing these closures.

WITHDRAWING YOUR CHILD FROM SUNNY SMILES

In order to withdraw from Sunny Smiles Preschool, we must have a 30 day written notice. We have the withdrawal form available for download or can provide it to you at the school. There are no refunds, discounts, or credits for any missed classes.
